How the leaf becomes your chai
The CTC method — Crush, Tear, Curl — in six steps, from leaf to the cup on your table.
-
01
Wither
Fresh leaf rested until it loses its moisture
-
02
Crush
Broken open to release the oils
-
03
Tear
Torn for a stronger infusion
-
04
Curl
Rolled tight, so the flavour keeps
-
05
Oxidise
Left to darken and deepen
-
06
Fire
Dried and fired for a brisk cup
This is what comes out the other end. CTC is granules, not leaves — small, hard and quick to give up its colour, which is exactly what a cup with milk in it needs.
Who makes Mann Ki Chai
Mann Ki Chai is a brand of Dharamraj Botanica LLP. We pack two teas under this name — Strong CTC for every day, and Gold for the days that deserve a little more.
The same company makes House of Amranth, a separate tea brand with its own range and its own audience. Different teas, different shelves — one set of books, one set of licences, and the same answer when someone asks what is in the packet.
